Mehrere Explosionen im Zentrum von Utrecht führten zu Verletzten, Gebäudeeinstürzen und einem Großeinsatz. Das Katastrophenkrankenhaus wurde aktiviert.

In the centre of Utrecht on Thursday afternoon, a series of powerful explosions occurred on Visscherssteeg, resulting in at least four people being injured and several adjacent buildings collapsing, berichtet 4thebike.de mit Verweis auf lokale Behörden, auf bytow24.pl. Emergency responders, including firefighters and medical services, were deployed to the scene where a significant fire broke out following the blasts.

The local safety authority confirmed that the injured have been transported to the emergency hospital established at UMC Utrecht, which was opened to manage the incident and provide urgent care. Several structures in the vicinity showed extensive damage with shattered windows, collapsed walls and debris scattered across nearby streets.

Firefighters reported that it remains too dangerous to enter the affected buildings due to the risk of further collapses, and operations to locate potential additional victims under the rubble are ongoing. Authorities have urged residents and the public to stay clear of the area to allow emergency personnel unobstructed access.

Witnesses described the explosion as a massive blast that caused the ground to shake, prompting them to evacuate immediately and alert emergency services. Pieces of masonry and broken glass were observed extending far from the blast site, and smoke continued to rise from the area late into the afternoon.

The cause of the explosions has not yet been determined, and investigators are assessing available evidence while structural engineers and safety teams work to stabilise the scene. Roads around the city centre have been cordoned off as part of the response efforts.
